Bengaluru Ayurvedic Clinic Fined ₹5 Lakh Over Electrocution Death of Patient

In April 2025, the IV Additional District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission in Bengaluru held Divine Spiti Ayurvedic Clinic liable for the electrocution death of 55-year-old Kamaladevi during treatment in September 2023. Her son, Alok Kumar, had taken her for a seven-day Ayurvedic lepanam treatment when she suddenly became unconscious and was rushed to East Point Hospital without his consent. Hospital doctors declared her dead upon arrival. A forensic autopsy confirmed that Kamaladevi died from electrocution. Kumar sued the clinic, alleging negligence and deficiency in service. The commission ordered the clinic to pay Kumar ₹5 lakh in compensation with 9% interest from the date of death, ₹10,000 for deficiency in service, ₹50,000 for pain and mental agony, and ₹10,000 for legal costs.
